Ingrid Michaelson, Kristen Bell, Clean Bandit, Mariah Carey, Passenger, Lorde are Trending

Posted by news and gossip

This week, a brand new romantic number by a teen heartthrob tops the list, while a melancholic ode to lost love still stands strong after years on the charts, and a follow-up single to one of last year's biggest tunes reigns supreme. Here's what we're listening to right now:

10. Ingrid Michaelson - Girls Chase Boys

Why it's trending: "Girls Chase Boys" is the first single off quirky singer/songwriter Ingrid Michaelson's upcoming record Lights Out, and it pretty much solidifies our crush on the longtime music-maker. Did you know that it's not just boys who chase girls? It can be the other way around, too!

Best lyric line: "All the broken hearts in the world still beat / Let's not make it harder than it has to be / Oooooh its all the same thing / Girls chase boys chase girls..."

9. Mariah Carey - You're Mine (Eternal)

Why it's trending: Mariah Carey's The Art Of Letting Go may be due May 6th, but thankfully MC's dishing out tracks from the long-awaited record, like "You're Mine (Eternal)". Most likely inspired by husband Nick Cannon, it's an ode out there for all the lovers wanting to claim stakes on their significant others. Back off, ladies!

Best lyric line: "Baby we were the best / Suffered dreams of you all through the night / And baby I can't seem to give you up / You're mine..."

8. Clean Bandit - Rather Be (ft. Jess Glynne)

Why it's trending: Featuring singer/songwriter Jess Glynne, "Rather Be" is a fun and soulful single coming off UK electronic group Clean Bandit's new record New Eyes. It's all over Britain, and we won't be surprised if the North American market jumps on the track as well.

Best lyric line: "If you gave me a chance I would take it / It's a shot in the dark but I'll make it / Know with all of your heart, you can't shame me / When I am with you, there's no place I'd rather be..."

7. Aloe Blacc - The Man

Why it's trending: Sampling Elton John's classic "Your Song", "The Man" by Aloe Blacc is slowly but steadily creeping up the charts and popping up on people's iPods. Taken from Blacc's Wake Me Up EP, and also coming off his new album Lift Your Spirit, it's an uplifting tune that the masses are slowly catching onto.

Best lyric line: "Girl you can tell everybody / Yeah you can tell everybody / Go ahead and tell everybody / I'm the man, I'm the man, I'm the man ..."

6. Ellie Goulding - How Long Will I Love You

Why it's trending: As a bonus track off Ellie's reissue Halcyon Days, this track is actually a cover, originally done by Scottish group The Waterboys in 1990. It became the official song for BBC's Children In Need charity, and it was picked for the trailer for the film About Time as well. It's such a simple, timeless love song that only Goulding's tender vocals can really set apart.

Best lyric line: "How long will I love you / As long as stars are above you / And longer if I can..."

5. Lorde - Team

Why it's trending: As the second single off Lorde's debut LP Pure Heroine, "Team" definitely has the chops to be as successful as her massive hit "Royals". In fact, we kind of like this track a little better than her first single, which is also a lyrical explanation of her day-to-day life and dreams.

Best lyric line: "We live in cities you'll never see on screen / Not very pretty, but we sure know how to run things / Living in ruins of the palace within my dreams / And you know we're on each other's team..."

4. Of Monsters And Men - Dirty Paws

Why it's trending: Featured in the trailer for the film The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, this track by Icelandic folk/pop band Of Monsters And Men hit the US airwaves back in October 2013, and is picking up steam on the song charts. How can you not like the soothing sounds of the adorably charming folk troupe?

Best lyric line: "The bees had declared a war / The sky wasn't big enough for them all / The birds, they got help from below / From dirty paws and the creatures of snow..."

3. Passenger - Let Her Go

Why it's trending: It seems like this song (released back in 2012) just isn't stopping with its chart performance! Back on the Billboard Hot 100 at the no.5 spot, the crestfallen love song is striking a chord with the masses, almost 2 years after its release, because of the brutally honest lyrics.

Best lyric line: "You only need the light when it's burning low / Only miss the sun when it starts to snow / Only know you love her when you let her go..."

2. Kristen Bell - Do You Want to Build a Snowman?

Why it's trending: Disney's Frozen soundtrack has been blowing up our top 100 chart for months, and it seems like fans of the animated flick are really into the melancholic "Do You Want To Build A Snowman?" these days. After all, it is #1 on our current charts!

Best lyric line: "We only have each other / It's just you and me / What are we gonna do? / Do you wanna build a snowman?"

1. Austin Mahone - U

Why it's trending: Attention, Mahomies! The 17-year-old up & comer released this romantic ode that shows off his blossoming rap skills for all of y'all on Valentine's Day. Seeing as Justin Bieber's not doing too well these days on the charts, we've been needing a new adorable pop crooner, and Austin Mahone definitely fits the bill.

Best lyric line: "Because I know / That all my dreams are comin' true, yeah / And I know-ow-ow-ow / I'll never feel the way I feel girl / 'Bout anyone but you..."
