Critics Shoot Down "Gone With the Bullets" after Opening Day

director Jiang Wen's newest film, "Gone With the Bullets", which was released on December 18, 2014.

The film is about a beauty pageant set in 1920s Shanghai.

It is also a non-linear sequel to the director's 2010 hit film, "Let the Bullets Fly."

Although it opened just yesterday, critics didn't waste any time throwing barbs at the new film.

Movie producer Wu Zhishuo says "apart from the soundtrack, [Gone With the Bullets] is all over the place. This is a romantic musical, but the quality is below

Wu adds that Jiang Wen's been overhyped by the media, which led to the director making a "self-aggrandizing, individualistic, nonsensical" film.

Another film critic wrote via Weibo that "Gone With the Bullets" was ultimately disappointing and forgettable.

The rise or fall of the film will be determined next week, when China's new box office figures are released.
